Future DS is a spectral de-esser that controls harsh sibilance without dulling the air. It identifies problematic high-frequency peaks in real time and applies targeted attenuation, leaving the surrounding spectrum intact.
Traditional de-essers trigger on level. Future DS reads the spectrum. Instead of asking, “Is this loud?”, Future DS asks, “Is this frequency spike unnatural in context?” It locates and attenuates narrowband energy that breaks the spectral envelope, leaving neighboring frequencies untouched. As a result, harshness is reduced without sacrificing air.
Future DS offers two approaches to controlling harsh high frequencies, selected via the Sibilance switch.
When Sibilance is on, processing is triggered only when vocal sibilance is detected, turning Future DS into a dedicated de-esser.
When Sibilance is off, Future DS behaves more like a high-frequency limiter, continuously controlling harshness without dulling the air. This also makes it useful for sources such as cymbals, strings, and bright mix buses.
Hear exactly what Future DS is doing with two dedicated monitoring options:
Delta Monitor: Solo everything removed by Future DS for direct comparison with the original signal.
Sibilance Monitor: When Sibilance switch is on, click this button to solo only the signal identified as sibilance, allowing you to verify that detection is targeting the intended content.
Future DS allows you to define the exact processing range to target the frequencies where sibilance or harshness occurs, leaving irrelevant content unaffected. Drag the boundary lines directly on the spectrum display for instant visual feedback and more precise control.
Draw a weighting curve directly on the spectrum display to guide where Future DS applies more or less processing. Raise a band to increase processing in that frequency region, or lower it to preserve more of the original tone. This gives you detailed control over how the plugin responds across the spectrum.
Every control you need is right on the panel: Depth, Sibilance, Smooth, Attack, Release, and Hold. Combined with an interactive spectrum display for direct curve editing and real-time visual feedback, Future DS makes detailed de-essing fast and intuitive.
By default, Future DS runs in linear-phase mode for maximum spectral transparency — with a latency of 128 samples (2.9ms at 44.1kHz). For real-time tracking or live performance, Zero Latency Mode switches to minimum-phase processing with 0 samples of latency.
Oversampling runs up to 4x, effectively eliminating aliasing across the entire processing chain. The DSP engine is aggressively optimized — drop it on every vocal track in your session without hesitation.
